A debate with the Prime Minister of Latvia, Mr Valdis Dombrovskis entitled “Latvia emerges from crisis. Lessons learned”, organized jointly by demosEUROPA – Centre for European Strategy and the Embassy of Republic of Latvia, was held on 8 July 2010 in Warsaw.
High-Level Roundtable on Low-Carbon Economy in Poland (fourth meeting)
The fourth meeting of the High-Level Roundtable on Low-Carbon Economy, part of the “Poland’s Low Carbon Transition Strategy. Putting Poland on the path of CO2 emission reductions” project was held on 6 July 2010. The main point of the July’s meeting was the presentation of the World Bank initial report on the macroeconomic effects of the energy&climate policy in Poland. Presented scenarios presumed, that the realization of reduction goals required by the European Union is connected with a decrease of GDP growth in Poland in the first period of transition.
4th seminar: CCS as a preferred technology for mainstreaming the clean use of coal in Poland
The fourth seminar from demosEUROPA series “Carbon Capture and Storage as a preferred technology for mainstreaming the clean use of coal in Poland” took place on 29 June 2010 in Warsaw and was concerned with the potential for research and development of CCS technology in Poland. The Chief State Geologist, Minister Henryk Jacek Jezierski, who stressed the importance of cooperation between the government, public administration, private sector and NGOs in order to complete CCS demonstration projects in Poland, opened the meeting. The Minister also announced the creation of Scientific Science and Industry Consortium “GeoCO2”, whose aim will be to develop and submit their joint offer for implementation of the geological project to study the absorptivity of sandstone water bearing formations including their deep and surface monitoring, and to implement the project, once the consortium's offer is selected and approved.

Europe needs a decade of deep reform – harmoniously stated the participants of the conference ‘Innovation as the key to he EU’s global position’, which was held on 30 June 2010 in Warsaw. The event, organized by demosEUROPA – Centre for European Reform and the Ernst&Young ‘Better Government’ Programme, was accompanied by the presentation of the report Turning Gaps into Niches. For a new innovation paradigm in Central Europe.
Conference: Unlocking a low-carbon Poland – Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency could contribute to the large extent to the reduction of the greenhouse gas emissions – underlined participants of the 3rd meeting of the High Level Roundtable on Low-Carbon Economy, held within the framework of the project “Poland’s Low Carbon Transition Strategy – putting Poland on the path of CO2 emission reductions”. This session took place on 11 June 2010 and was dedicated to energy efficiency.
